started his career in the MICE industry with the Singapore Tourist & Promotion Board (now known as the Singapore Tourism Board). Armed with a Business Administration (Honors) degree from the National University of Singapore, Ivan was seconded to the corporate planning division and through liaising with the Board’s overseas offices, he discovered the potential of the conventions market.
This prompted him to join the Singapore International Conventions and Exhibitions Centre (SICEC) – the first mega-convention centre in Singapore when it began operation in 1995. Within a short span of four years with the Centre, Ivan rose from an Assistant Food & Beverage Manager to Assistant Director of Conventions. Ivan was involved in managing numerous dinners and corporate events, as well as large events like the inaugural World Trade Organization (WTO) Meeting, the International Congress of Rheumatology and the International Heart Surgical Conference held at the centre.
Ivan was subsequently head-hunted by an International Conference Management Company based in Stockholm, Sweden – Congrex Holdings. He spent two years as the Director of Sales and Marketing for Congrex Singapore and Malaysia.
At the turn of the century, Ivan took a giant step forward by co-founding INMEET CMS with Fong. Through conference management and talking to the academia and researchers, Ivan uncovered his interests in serious games. This lead him to conceptualize and produce the Serious Games Conference and the Health.Innovation.Technology Challenge (HIT Challenge) series since 2012 and 2016 respectively. He is the chairman of the Administrative Council of Serious Games Association and plays an active role in advocating the use and adoption of games in education, healthcare and adult learning in Singapore and Asia.
